Sophie Bear and Mrs Keen have gone for a picnic. Being greedy,
Sophie also wants to visit a sweet shop!
|
|
They have driven to Danbury
Country Park. It's near Sophie's school and lots
of her friends have told her about it. They parked in
the car park and unpacked the picnic. First, Mrs Keen
gave Sophie a drink.
|
 |
Then she gave Sophie a bowl of salad to hold. Sophie
didn't look very happy. "Once you've had salad
you can have some crisps," said Mrs Keen. Soon
Sophie was very happy - enjoying munching her crisps.

As they ate Sophie looked over and saw a friend coming
to join them. A squirrel had come close to the table,
waving his bushy tail. "I bet he wants to share
the picnic." said Mrs Keen.
|
Sophie sat and watched the squirrel for ages until
he ran off up a tree! "I wonder if I could climb
the tree like that?" wondered Sophie. "You
could try but I'm not getting you down if you get
stuck," replied Mrs Keen..

|
On the way back they drove through Maldon
to go for a walk, an ice cream and (Sophie hoped) some sweets
from the shop. Sophie was very sad when she saw that, because
it was Sunday, the sweet shop was closed. Mrs Keen had to
buy her an ice cream to cheer her up!
|
|
Once they got back home Sophie decided to enjoy the
sun some more and lay in the garden sunbathing. "That's
my sunbed!" shouted Mrs Keen but Sophie didn't
want to move.

Parent's
Note
|
Sophie enjoyed visiting Danbury
Country Park. There's a series of lakes and a
mix of woodland and gardens. Parking is pay and display
(£2 all day). There is also an ice house and
a "haha" but Sophie didn't manage to find
them!
Then they visited Maldon. You can park in "Promenade
Park" on the front where you can walk along the
river Blackwater and see the old sailing barges and
enjoy the new playground. You do have to pay for parking
though so alternatively park in the car park halfway
down the high street. It's free on Sundays and you
can stroll down to the front and enjoy an ice cream
or a drink on the way.
If you're in Essex, the council runs a number of
parks (see the link above for the list and details
of locations / prices etc... though most are free
to use.). They are good for walks and Sophie goes
on a school trip to Marsh Farm each year!
