Sophie
Bear has been getting very excited about Christmas. She read
in the paper about a street in Rayleigh, Essex that lights
up all their houses at Christmas.
She was
very excited and asked Miss Wellsbury if they could go.
They set
out but suddenly the road turned into a dirt track with lots
of potholes. Miss Wellsbury wasn't very happy because her
car was filthy and it was very bumpy. Sophie thought it was
funny - she was bouncing up and down!
They arrived
at the road and it was all dark - no lights. Sophie looked
very disappointed. Miss Wellsbury checked the map and realised
that it was the wrong road. There are two "Lodge Close"s
in Rayleigh! (Parents hint: It's the one in Rayleigh, not
Thundersley!!!)

They
turned a corner and there in front of them was a tree
all lit up! Sophie was jumping up and down in the back
of the car, getting very excited!

They
parked the car and walked up and down the street. Most
of the houses were covered from floor to roof with lights.
Sophie
thought it was very pretty and went home wanting to
light up their house!

If
you live in Essex and wish to visit the Lodge Close
lights then I'm sure they'd be happy to have you as
they aim to raise money for charity. They have been
featured on thisisessex.co.uk but you might want to
check before travelling.
2005
Update: Normally the lights go up around Christmas
but I've heard some bad news for 2005. We've been
told that unfortunately they will not be taking
place this year due to complaints - despite raising
lots of money for charity
If
you know of good amateur illuminations then send Sophie
an email and we'll try to list
it for you. Also, if you're in the Essex area
then she would enjoy visiting!
