Sophie wanted to go on holiday to Bruges. It is a very pretty
city with lots of old buildings. It is in a foreign country
called Belgium.
Miss Wellsbury drove them to Stansted Airport to catch the
aeroplane. They had to take passports and show them to the
people there before they were allowed on the plane.
The plane drove down to the runway and then went very very
fast. Suddenly they were in the air and the plane was going
up. Have you ever been on a plane?
They landed in Belgium and got on a coach to Bruges. This
is a picture of the market square, it's very pretty and has
lots of outdoor restaurants to sit and eat in. (Click on it
to make it bigger!)

| The next day they walked to the train station and got
on a train to Brussels. It's a very big city with lots
of people. Sophie found a statue of a little boy weeing.
It's called "le Maniquin Pis" and is very famous. |

While they were in Bruges, Steve met a new friend. His
name is Gerald and he is a Giraffe. Sophie, Steve and
Little Bear have to look after him because he is Belgian
and doesn't speak English very well. He speaks French
and Flemish though. |

On their last day in Bruges they all went for a walk
around the city and found some old windmills by the
river. They are buildings with big sails that turn in
the wind. Have you seen a windmill?
When they got home, Sophie found out that we have windmills
in the UK too. There is one in Mountnessing, Essex and
lots of other places too. Perhaps you could go and see
one. Drop Sophie an e-mail if you do, she'd love to
hear about it.
